The region’s industrial future was outlined at the GEA Major Industry Conference + Hydrogen Forum

The future of existing industries, plans for new exciting industrial projects and the diversification towards renewable energy and hydrogen were discussed at this year's GEA Major Industry Conference + Hydrogen Forum.

Over 300 people from across Australia converged on the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre on Thursday 7 October 2021 and Friday 8 October 2021 for this unique event.

Day One - the Major Industry Conference included presentations from QAL, BSL, Shell QGC and Gladstone Area Water Board. Queensland Resource Council provided an insight into the future path of resources in Queensland, Neoen and Energy Estate provided updates on their wind and solar farm projects, Alpha HPA advised when production at their precursor plant would commence, Inter-Port Global delivered an insight into the proposed Inland Rail link between Gladstone and Toowoomba while Hydrogen Utility spoke about their proposed hydrogen project.

Day Two - the Hydrogen Forum included presentations from Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni, CS Energy, NERA, Sumitomo, Powerlink, Australian Gas Networks, Hyzon Motors, BOC, CQU, Stanwell Corporation, ARUP, GPA Engineering, Iwatani and Fortescue Future Industries focussing on why Central Queensland is the focus of the emerging hydrogen industry, what this involves and what work has been done to capitalise on this opportunity. Aestec Services

AESTEC Services is an Australian owned Civil Construction and Industrial Maintenance Company based in Gladstone Queensland. The business was founded in 2005 and has fast become one of the chosen service providers and employers in the region.

To offer a holistic approach to the services for AESTEC clients, a state of the art fabrication workshop along with the mobile maintenance workshop was included in their head office expansion. This allowed them to develop their own service team to maintain the AESTEC fleet of vehicles and machinery.

Today AESTEC Services is the proud employer of 200 local employees across a multitude of trades and skill backgrounds. They have assisted 20 Apprentices to complete their trade qualifications including dual trades. Today AESTEC boasts 11 apprentices including 2 adult apprentices. In 2021 AESTEC’s apprentice program is taking on an additional 6 apprentices.

The growth in business has allowed AESTEC to support the local community including Gladstone Engineering Alliance, Boyne Tannum Hookup, The Art Gallery Gladstone Hospital and many sporting groups and organisations.
